Association of Conservation Officers
- formed in 1981 by a small group of local authority
conservation officers, to act as a support organisation for those in local government with a
responsibility for the built heritage. After much deliberation, the association sought institute status
and in April 1997 became The Institute of Historic Building Conservation.*
The Institute had its official launch on October 9th 1997.
