Bargeboards

- boards fixed at the gable ends of roofs to conceal and protect the ends of the roof timbers, or thatch. They may project over the wallface and are frequently highly decorative, estates often adopted their own personal style. Pattern books were available. The barge is the overhanging edge of a roof up the slope of a gable.
