Box gutter
- a rainwater gutter, square or rectangular in section which is set into the wallhead. Where the outer
face is visible it is often profiled eg an
ogee gutter. Box gutters are a frequent source of water penetration.
In addition to failure of the material in which they are formed, usually
lead or cast
iron, if the
outlets become blocked, they can cause water to flood back into the building, so a safety overflow
arrangement is essential.
