Conservation
- the most appropriate definition was provided by the late Colin Mcwilliam author
of "Scottish Townscapes" and the originator of the "Buildings of Scotland". He described
conservation as "the action necessary to preserve anything of acknowledged value". As such, it
can also embrace completely new work, without historical precedent, making the term particularly
suited to areas.
