Corbel
- a projecting block which supports a parapet or beam.
Often carved, particularly in Gothic Architecture,
where heads and foliage are common. Corbelling, is building out by projecting over the block below. A corbel table
is a projecting course of usually fairly flat stones, supported by a line of corbels.
