European Architectural Heritage Year (EAHY) 1975
- designated by The Council of Europe,
EAHY embraced a number of high ideals
aimed at raising awareness of the need to conserve the built environment and to put in place lasting initiatives.
Each participating country set its own objectives. Four
pilot projects were selected from work undertaken in the UK. these were at Chester, Poole,
Edinburgh and The National
Trust for Scotlands "Little Houses Scheme". Attitudes towards
conservation had been changing from the late 60's/early 70's, EAHY, the first real mention of the
built environment by The council of Europe, provided a focus. See The
