- The popular name for The Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England,
formed 1984 as a quango responsible for virtually all aspects of the conservation of the historic
environment, including making recommendations for grants to The Historic Buildings Council, but is ultimately answerable to the DOE on matters of listing and LB consent.
Manages over 400 historic properties.
