European Standards
- the European Committee for standardisation usually referred to as CEN from the French -
Comite Europeen de Normalisation.
Exists, as the name suggests, to rationalise the various standards
that exist across the member states. In many cases they introduce standards which are stricter and
less flexible than the equivalent British Standard.
The BS is still the standard to adhere to but
no doubt the situation will slowly change as we become more european in our outlook, which could,
in theory, impact adversely on some areas of
conservation, particularly the use of local materials
and construction techniques.
