Heritage Economic Regeneration Scheme (HERS)
- an initiative launched by
English Heritage in June 1998, planned to last for four years,
and aimed at deprived areas which have not benefitted from the various conservation led schemes
of recent years,
CAPS,
Town Schemes etc.
HERS plans to positively involve business and communities
and while the objective to rescue historic buildings at risk is paramount the basis of the scheme
is to achieve obvious heritage dividend in terms of benefits such as reuse of vacant upper floors,
renewal of the economic base of areas and expansion of employment opportunities.
