- International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of cultural
Property. Established in Rome in 1956 by UNESCO, ICCROM is an inter-governmental body
which assists member states in the protection of their built cultural heritage. Its statutory functions
include documentation, research and training. ICCROM has proved particularly effective in
mobilising and co-ordinating conservation work during times of disaster.
