Mitre
- diagonal (45 degree) joint formed to accommodate the meeting of two members at right angles. More commonly
used with reference to mouldings.
A mason's mitre is formed when one moulding is turned to butt onto the other
at 90 degrees , rather than cutting both members at the 45 degree angle which could lead to vulnerable edges when
working in stone.
