Mortar
- a mixture traditionally including an aggregate,
slacked lime or
clay, any appropriate
additive and water which is used for pointing and
bedding masonry. In modern times, portland
cement has been more widely used. A mixture rich in the cementing material is said to be "fat".
Plasticisers are introduced into mortars to make them more workable, retarders are used to slow down the setting time.
