Nepus / Tympan gable

- (Scottish) a small gablet (sometimes referred to as a tympan, see Tympanum) centred on the front elevation where it gives an impression of height and added importance to the building and it gives added attic space. Some have windows, and most have chimney stacks. There are many local variations in shape and decoration.
