Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1972

- the principal act in Scotland relating to listed buildings and conservation areas. Contains most but not all of the relevant legislation. Housing, Finance and Building Acts for example also contain relevant passages.

There are some differences in legislation between Scotland and, England and Wales where the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 is in force. In England and Wales it is possible to apply for a certificate of immunity from listing, which does'nt exist in Scotland. Grants and loans in Scotland are given under the 1990 Act following the repeal of The local Authorities (Historic Buildings) Act 1962.
