- an International Heritage Organisation, the WMF is a private charitable organisation "dedicated to the
preservation of the world's exceptional artistic, historical and cultural monuments." Started in New York in
1995, the fund now has affiliates in a number of European countries including France, Italy, Spain, Portugal
and Britain. Using support from trustees and benefactors, the fund has been involved in the restoration of over
100 sites including Easter Island and Angkor in Cambodia. It established the World Monuments Watch in 1995 and
to date has published two biennial lists of the worlds 100 most endangered sites.
